Gardens of distinction, from La Jolla to Montecito

We begin by understanding how a garden is lived in as much as how it is viewed.

For more than three decades we have designed private estate gardens and guided their construction as Owner’s Representative. Every line, material and planting decision brings clarity, proportion and calm, so a garden feels grounded and quietly confident for generations.

A tropical retreat

This coastal residence was shaped through clarity, planting craft and a restrained palette. A redwood pavilion beneath a hand-made lantern, koi beneath a stone path, ti plants and bromeliads layered in deep shade: the garden balances enclosure with openness and draws on California’s long horticultural tradition.

It was built alongside skilled artisans and long-trusted collaborators, and chosen by Sunset Magazine for its “Backyard Retreat” cover.

Beyond form and function

Good design is felt before it is understood. We focus on proportion, materiality and the subtle details that bring unity to a garden.

Measured structure and thoughtful planting make outdoor rooms that feel settled, timeless and made for everyday living.

Planting through the seasons

Paths, planting beds and places to sit are planned together, with attention to seasonal interest and the way you use the garden.

From plan to place

Every estate begins on paper

The color master plan resolves arrival, circulation, terraces, water and planting into a single, legible vision before anything is built. It is the document every consultant, contractor and craftsman works from, and helps the finished garden feel cohesive and natural.

Water in balance

A garden becomes complete when light, shade and movement sit in harmony. Water draws the eye and shapes the atmosphere, softening architecture and anchoring planting. These are places for reflection, stillness and quiet hours outdoors.
